When you plan to move to Canada, all you wish for is to get a Canadian job offer. No doubt, Canada has innumerable employment opportunities for candidates with the right set of qualifications.
But the scammers try to take advantage of the ignorance of gullible immigration aspirants to fool them. So, suppose you are thinking about migrating to Canada. In that case, you must be aware of certain types of immigration scams that target those immigration candidates who do not have a job offer from Canada.
The most common type of scam, about which the Canadian police receive too many complaints, is as follows: A scam company creates a fake website, usually a mirror of a legitimate company’s site. The site will have all the relevant information that you would be looking for and even online reviews. They will also have official-looking bank deposit forms.
They will target you after finding your resume on any popular employment websites such as LinkedIn or Monster. A person who will introduce themselves as a recruitment consultant will contact you and ask for a convenient time to fix a job interview. Most probably, they would suggest an IM-based interview rather than a video chat. This, in itself, is a red flag.
After a brief interview, they will offer you a job and send you employment forms in no time. This is another red flag as all companies usually take some time to complete the process of offering you a job. The scammer would ask you to furnish information such as your identity and bank details in these forms. You will also be asked to deposit some amount in their bank account as their ‘fee’ for sourcing the job for you. Then they will provide you with a fake job offer. Suppose you apply for Canadian immigration with this job offer. In that case, your visa application will be rejected and you will be banned from applying for Canadian immigration for a certain period, as it is fake.
First of all, you must keep in mind that employment candidates never pay recruiters for securing a job for them. It is the employer who pays them. Second, it is illegal in Canada to give a job offer or offer letter in exchange for money. So if you submit a fake job offer letter along with your immigration application, your application will be denied, no doubt.
You must check whether the job offer you have received is on company letterhead and has details of the company, including registration and contact number. You must also verify the company details on the internet. So the most important thing is, you should never pay for a job offer.
Here are some other red signals that you should be cautious about:
