The process for sponsoring parents or grandparents for permanent residency in Canada has been modified and is now in effect. Individuals interested in sponsoring their parents or grandparents must enter a yearly draw and wait to be selected. The annual invitation quota is approximately 20,000.

It is important to highlight that only those who are eligible should enter the draw. Any ineligible applications will be rejected. Consequently, it is important to thoroughly study eligibility conditions before participating.

After receiving the invitation, within 60 days, you will have to submit a complete application to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It is of the utmost importance that the application be completed because an incomplete application will be rejected. If an application is considered incomplete, it will be returned after a four-month delay. The 60-day deadline for filing a complete application will have passed by this point, and the option to sponsor on the issued invitation will have passed. In these cases, people must re-enter the draw in later years and hope to be invited to sponsor again.

Sponsors should submit three types of inspection reports from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) if they want a sponsorship application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to show that they have met the minimum funding requirements. If you do not qualify for parental sponsorship because you fail to meet the three-year minimum income requirement, you can apply for a Super Visa instead. The Super Visa permits parents and grandparents to visit and stay in Canada for prolonged periods. The income necessary for this visa is calculated over one year and is roughly 30% lower than the sponsorship income requirement.

Eligibility For Super Visa

Eligibility to sponsor your parents or grandparents for permanent residency in Canada

In Canada, to sponsor your grandparents or parents for permanent residency, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
  • You should be 18 years old.
  • For family sponsorship, you must surpass the minimum necessary income (MNI). The MNI is the government-set income criterion that ensures sponsors have sufficient resources to support their sponsored family members.
  • You must sign an undertaking agreement to qualify to sponsor parents or grandparents of yours for permanent residency in Canada. This agreement represents a legal commitment to financially support your sponsored family members and return any provincial social assistance benefits provided to them over the past 20 years.
  • If you live in Quebec, the law would require you to sign a new employment contract.

Canada Super Visa Requirements

  • Form [IMM5257] must be completed and submitted outside of Canada.
  • The financial status of both the parent and the host will be evaluated.
  • Overall economic and political variables will also be considered.
  • Provide a letter of invitation from the host.
  • Parents or grandparents must be financially supported by their child (host) and have a minimal income.
  • Prove that you have had Canadian medical coverage for at least one year. Complete the necessary medical exam.

Meeting these criteria is essential to apply for the Canada Super Visa, allowing parents and grandparents to visit and stay in Canada for extended periods.

Invitation Letter

The invitation letter should include the following details:

  • Parents' full names and middle names.
  • Date of birth and place of birth.
  • Address and phone number for parents/grandparents.
  • Connection to the host (Canadian citizen or permanent resident).
  • The trip's objective.
  • The expected length of stay.
  • Accommodation information.
  • Planned departure date for the parent/grandparent.

These conditions must be met for someone to receive a Super Visa, which permits parents and grandparents to reside in Canada for up to five years without renewing their status.

Proof of Financial Support:

The child or grandchild inviting the parents or grandparents must show that the family satisfies the minimum required income criterion in order to sponsor them under the Super Visa program.

The following documents can be used as evidence of financial support:

  • The Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 form for the most recent tax year can be used as proof of the sponsor's income and tax compliance.
  • Statements of Employment Insurance Benefits may be added to demonstrate additional income sources or a stable financial situation.
  • To demonstrate the sponsor's employment status and income, an employment letter that includes information like pay, job title, work description, and date of hire can be submitted.
  • Paystubs are important records that provide information about the sponsor's regular income and employment history.
  • Bank statements can be used to show the sponsor's stability and financial capabilities.

The Canadian immigration authorities will further examine these supporting documents to determine whether the sponsor can afford to assist their parents or grandparents during their stay in Canada. The success of the Super Visa application and guaranteeing that the visiting family members may enjoy their time in Canada without financial worries depend on meeting the minimal income requirements.

Your application will be evaluated for the Super Visa based on a number of criteria in addition to financial support:

To convince Canadian authorities that you have compelling reasons to return after your visit to Canada, you must first show strong ties to your home country. Your case will be strengthened if you can show that you have significant ties to your native country through property ownership, job, familial ties, or other responsibilities.

Second, it is essential to clarify the precise reason for your trip to Canada and provide evidence to support that rationale. It does not matter if you're seeing relatives, going to a particular event, or doing something else; giving concise, well-supported justifications will make your application seem more credible.

Additionally, your family situation and financial security will be carefully taken into account. Whether you have enough money to meet your costs throughout your stay and you are not exclusively dependent on the financial support of your host in Canada will be determined by Canadian officials.

In addition, the general political and economic stability of your nation will be taken into consideration. This evaluation tries to make sure that the stability of your nation does not give rise to worries about potential reasons to overstay your visa in Canada.

You can increase your chances of receiving a positive result and the possibility of visiting your loved ones in Canada by thoroughly addressing these factors in your Super Visa application.
