Canada Student Visa

A study visa authorizes an international student to enter the country, and a study permit gives the authority to continue residing there. These are required for international students seeking to join a program in Canada. However, just having a study permit will not let you enter Canada. In addition to your permit, you must also receive an Electronic Travel Authorization, which is necessary for your entry.

Conditions for Student Visas in Canada

You must submit a number of certain documents with your visa application if you're thinking about studying in Canada. Your financial capacity is a vital requirement for receiving a study permit. The Canadian government demands proof that you have the savings or sponsorship—such as parental support—to support yourself financially during your studies.

Requirements for Canadian Study Permit Application

The following are usually necessary for a Canadian Study Permit application:

  • Admission Letter: An official acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
  • Medical Exam and Police Check Results: Documentation of medical examination results and police clearance.
  • Passport Photos: Two passport-sized photographs of yourself are required.
  • Proof of Financial Support: Documentation demonstrating your capacity to pay for your education.
  • Biometrics: At an authorized Visa Application Centre in your native country, you may be requested to submit biometric data.
  • Processing Period: Your visa application may be processed for up to 90 days. As soon as you receive a legitimate acceptance letter from the college or university of your choice, submit your application to speed up the procedure. ImmiLaw Global, one of the best Canada student visa consultants in Kerala, will help in speeding up the processing time for your application.
  • Student Direct Stream (SDS): If you are from a nation that falls under the SDS category, you will be qualified for the Student Direct Stream (SDS), which reduces the processing period to about 20 days. Application fees for SDS start at 150 CAD.

If your application for a study permit is denied, the letter of denial or refusal letter will explain why. You are always welcome to reapply and address the problems as you did previously, or you can contact ImmiLaw Global, the leading Canada student visa consultant in Kerala, for help.

Who Requires a Canadian Study Permit?

All international students requiring a visitor visa or an eTA to enter Canada must obtain a student visa and study permit. The permit authorizes to reside and start studies in Canada. Exemptions do, however, apply in some circumstances:

  • Study programs lasting less than 6 months only require a visitor visa or eTA, provided the program is completed within 6 months. A study permit is necessary for longer programs.
  • A study permit may not be required for the family or staff of foreign representatives recognized by Global Affairs Canada.
  • On official business, personnel of foreign military forces might not need a study permit (family members might have additional restrictions).
  • Foreign military personnel serving on official business may not need a study permit (family members may have different criteria).
  • Holders of Registered Indian Status in Canada are exempted from needing study permission.
  • Various minors in Canada, depending on the circumstances.
