IRCC Issues 4,000 Invitations in Second CEC Express Entry Draw of 2025

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently issued 4,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 527 received ITAs. Those who submitted their profiles before July 23, 2024, at 07:06:43 UTC, were prioritized. The third draw of the year 2025 took place on January 23, 2025.

It followed two earlier draws: one on January 8, which issued 1,350 ITAs, and another on January 7, for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which issued 471 ITAs.

As part of the 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan, IRCC has planned to have 82,890 new immigrant landings for 2025. IRCC intends to continue draws for candidates in the In-Canada Focus category. The In-Canada Focus category prioritizes international students and temporary residents in the country.

Through these initiatives, IRCC aims to balance immigration targets and meet economic needs. The plan focuses on helping temporary residents become permanent residents staying in Canada. They expect to benefit Canada's economy and workforce stability to a larger extent.

How to Earn More CRS Points?

There is intense competition for candidates, particularly in the higher CRS ranges. The CRS scores have consistently remained above 500, reflecting the competitiveness of CEC draws. Candidates aiming to improve their rankings must take strategic steps to boost their scores.

To increase your CRS points, you may consider the following strategies:

  • Upgrade your education level by obtaining a degree, diploma, or certificate, especially from a Canadian institution.
  • Acquire more work experience in Canada or abroad to boost your score under core human capital and skill transferability factors.
  • Achieve higher scores in English or French language tests. Bilingual candidates can earn additional points.
Apply for a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and get nominated.
  • Obtain a trade certificate from a Canadian province for extra points, especially with strong language skills.
  • If applicable, you can gain additional points by including your spouse's education, language test results, and work experience.

Express Entry Gains Prominence in Canada's Immigration Strategy for 2025!

In 2025, Express Entry remains a crucial pathway for Canada's immigration strategy. Some of the highlights include:

  • The federal government raised the target for Express Entry to 124,590 spots, a 12.5% increase from 2024.
  • PNP allocations will drop to 55,000, reflecting a shift toward federal pathways
  • Express Entry will prioritize candidates in the healthcare, skilled trades, and French-language proficiency to address labour shortages.
  • With the reduced PNP allocations, a larger portion of economic immigrants will enter Canada through Express Entry.

IRCC plans to conduct more category-based draws, focusing on specific skills and qualifications per labour demands. Moreover, the target processing time for applications is 6 months, making the pathway more immigrant-friendly.

All these factors make Express Entry a critical pathway for skilled workers looking to immigrate to Canada in 2025, making it essential for those seeking permanent residency.
