Express Entry Update: Lowest CRS in a Year: Canada Invites 5,500 Candidates

5,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) have been issued in the French-language proficiency category draw held on March 4, 2026. The minimum CRS score required to qualify for the draw was 397, which is much lower than many recent draws seen in the past year. The candidate must also have created their Express Entry profile before 6:18 p.m., Universal Coordinated Time (UTC), on October 10, 2025.

While 13 Express Entry draws have been conducted in 2026, the recent draw is the second French category-based draw of 2026. In more than a year, this draw marks the lowest CRS score in the category. Among the recent Express Entry draws, only the physicians with Canadian work experience have had a lower CRS cut-off score.

In the French-language proficiency category draw, IRCC has issued 14,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in 2026. After the Canadian Experience Class draw, which sent invitations to 24,000 candidates in 2026, the French-language proficiency category is the second category that has sent the maximum number of invitations.

Immigration selection in Canada in 2026 has so far prioritized those already in Canada, and the majority of the invitations have gone to candidates with provincial nominations or Canadian work experience.
