28,125 candidates received invitations to apply (ITA) for PR (permanent residency) in Canada in April. This large number of selections across multiple immigration pathways in Canada shows the ongoing efforts made by the country to attract skilled immigrants.
The Express Entry programs sent the major number of invitations, issuing 15,797 invitations across 7 draws in the month. It included the Canadian Experience Class, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), French-language proficiency, and trade occupation draws.
In addition to the federal programs, the provinces also conducted draws, with Ontario issuing over 7,600 invitations, followed by Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba through their respective immigration streams. Regional programs such as Atlantic immigration programs also further contributed to the total. The draws focus on addressing the labour shortages in the country.
To align economic and demographic goals, the priority is given to candidates with French-language proficiency, Canadian work experience and skills in high-demand sectors such as healthcare, trades, and education. Also, to transition temporary residents into permanent status, candidates already living or working in Canada received the most invitations.
The draws of April reflect that Canada is now focusing on a targeted, category-based immigration strategy.
