Alberta Conducts Record Immigration Draws in August 2025, Invites 683 Candidates

Alberta has delivered its biggest immigration round of the year, issuing a total of 683 new invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency.

Under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).

With 1,624 nomination spots still available for 2025, the province is strongly positioned to continue attracting skilled professionals across priority sectors.

What is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is a provincial program that helps skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and graduates gain permanent residence in Alberta. It targets candidates who can fill labour shortages or start businesses in the province.

The program includes several streams, such as the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Express Entry Stream, designed to attract workers in priority sectors like healthcare and technology.

AAIP works with the federal government to nominate qualified individuals, supporting Alberta's economic growth and community development.

Highlights of the August AAIP Draws

Alberta conducted three separate draws spanning the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) and the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway between August 7 and August 15, 2025.

  • Largest draw on record: On August 12, the province invited 581 candidates under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
  • Focus on healthcare talent: Two additional rounds targeted health workers through Express Entry and non-Express Entry pathways, accounting for 102 invitations combined.
  • Minimum cut-offs remain competitive, with scores between 53 and 70 across all draws.

Why Alberta's Program Stands Out?

Alberta's robust immigration strategy is distinguished by:

  • Flexibility: Streams for both Express Entry and non-Express Entry candidates.
  • Focus on labour gaps: Dedicated pathways for healthcare professionals, trades, technology, and rural workforce support.
  • Low cut-off scores: Many candidates receive invites with CRS-equivalent scores between 50 and 70, making AAIP accessible compared to other provincial programs.
  • Diverse opportunities: From the Alberta Opportunity Stream for foreign workers to the Rural and Entrepreneur streams, the program addresses both immediate workforce needs and long-term development.

What does this mean for Candidates?

  • With 1,624 nominations still available in 2025, fresh rounds are expected before year-end.
  • Healthcare professionals, technology specialists, and rural workers remain highly in demand.
  • Applicants with existing full-time employment in Alberta have stronger chances of receiving an invitation.
