How Does the New Policy Impact International Students in New Zealand?

New Zealand is renowned globally for its excellent work-life balance,  a way of life that values leisure, health, and ample vacation time.

International students' lives in New Zealand will be greatly improved by this new policy once it goes into effect.  This change will definitely going to enhance their overall well-being, support systems, and opportunities after graduation.

  • Students can manage more money for living expenses and tuition fees with five extra hours per week, which will lessen financial stress.
  • Part-time work gives students an opportunity to meet people, feel more involved, and develop a sense of purpose and belonging in their new community.
  • Additional work time enables international students to acquire more practical experience and skills that improve their employability after studies.

However, taking on additional work hours should not cause international students to neglect their studies or credit scores. If they neglect their academic life, it could impact their grades or overall educational experience. Raising the limit to 25 work hours a week gives international students more freedom to earn money and gain experience but it also means they have to be mindful about balancing work, studies, and self-care to prevent burnout.

Secondary students in New Zealand are still required to obtain parental and school approval to work during the academic year, even with the new 25-hour weekly limit, primarily to safeguard their well-being and support their development.
