MBBS admission in Georgia – Eligibility criteria

The students must have completed 17 years as of 31st December of the year the application is made.

Admission is based on the scores of Class 12 and the NEET exam. A minimum of 50% in the Class 12 examination in the science stream (biology, chemistry, and physics) is required.

The Medical Council of India has stipulated that those Indian candidates seeking admission to Georgian Universities must have scored 60% in the NEET exam.

Most universities do not require English language tests like IELTS and TOEFL.

MBBS Admission in Georgia

There usually are two intakes during a year. For example, one intake is in February/March and the next one in September/October. Given below is the exact sequence of events in the admission process.

Students are required to fill the application form and should forward this form along with all the supporting documents to the University.
The University will forward a Zoom link to clear the English level exam that they prescribe.
On clearing the exam, they provide the offer letter to the student.
They also hand over an invoice of USD 500 for the admission fees.
On receiving the admission fees from the student, the University sends all the documents to the ministry.
On receiving the order from the ministry, students should then pay the tuition fees (the total fee amount for either one year or one semester).

Visa Documentation

The student should submit the accommodation letter (for visa procedures and other purposes) to be on the safe side. It is easy to obtain accommodation for one year in the University dormitory. Students should pay accommodation fees for one year (half the amount is paid before coming to Georgia and the other half after coming to Georgia).

On receiving the prescribed documents from the student, the University issues an offer letter to the student. Payment for the application process has to be done by the student.

Students are issued an Accreditation letter from the Ministry of Education, Georgia, and an invitation letter from the University. In addition, part-payment of the first year’s course fee has to be paid to the University.

International students can apply for the visa to Georgia online. The original documents are to be submitted to the nearest VFS center.

Within 20 days of submitting documents, the student will receive a mail from the Georgian Embassy requesting the passport to stamp the Visa. This process takes another seven days, and the passport can be collected with a stamped Visa.

Fee Structure

The tuition fee is in the range of 5000 to 8000 USD per year for most of the good universities.

There are no scholarships awarded to students. The universities offer a performance-based stipend. This stipend covers the tuition and hostel fees. For all practical purposes, this acts as a scholarship.

Up to 50% discount on transport fares are given to students for travel within the country.

Accommodation

Hostel fees range between 150 to 250 USD per month. Most of the universities provide hostel facilities for the students within the campus. The rooms are well equipped, neat and tidy with internet facilities. The rooms are equipped with cooking facilities. The heating facility is available for the winter months.

Students can opt for other accommodation options like apartments on rent or lease, lodges, or hotels. PG accommodation is also available. These spaces will be cheaper than the hostel.

Validity of the MBBS degree

The graduates from medical universities in Georgia can practice in any country once they clear the qualifying licensing examination of that country. For example, the qualifying exam for the US is USMLE, the UK is PLAB and Australia is AMC.

An Indian student, on completion of the course, has to appear for a screening test for MCI registration. This is mandatory for medical practice in India.
